Description

I wanted to do some Babylon 5 fanart, but I wanted it to be somehow in the style of the show. So I did a two-part piece, Delenn and Sheridan, based off of the illuminations in the medieval-like setting of 3262 A.D. in the season four finale "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars." (I am indeed aware that the characters have no faces. I felt the piece should represent their legacy, not just them personally. I think trying to give them faces would have diminished that somehow.)

The piece was also inspired by the Ranger symbol, a silver Minbari on the left and a gold human on the right, as well as the Minbari star system which is a binary system. The poetry of two stars caught forever in the other's gravity seemed to fit Sheridan and Delenn perfectly. The brighter star is called Ardbar ("World of Light") where the ancient Minbari believed the gods lived. The other is dimmer and known as Midiri ("Sea of Souls"), where the ancient Minbari believed souls went when they died. The word behind Sheridan's head is Ardbar in the second Minbari alphabet. The gold tones and the Earth Alliance symbol are all representative of the human half of the Rangers. The galaxy shape is roughly based off of the Interstellar Alliance symbol.

The words on the right of the picture say "My sun, my moon, my sky" ("Ah'ard, ah'shaibar, ah'sustorr"), part of the goodbye between Sheridan and Delenn in "Sleeping in Light" (could not find the Minbari word for "sky" to save my life. Apologies.)

My great accomplishment of junior year, made while I supposedly listened in classes, with pen, marker, and colored pencil. None of the characters, etc of Babylon 5 belong to me. All credit for that to the brilliant JMS. :)
